Buck Shot & Bebe Gunn are The Sonny & Cher of AltKuntry. They combine boi-grrl close harmony with punkrock sensibility, mixing white trash irreverence with hasbian chic. As a transtastic drag duo, they've graced the stage at WOW in their own Holiday Hootenanny, as part of Murray Hill's Cherry Bomb event at The Knitting Factory, at The 9:30 Club in DC for Great International Drag King Show 5 and at The Center For Sex & Culture in San Francisco. Buck Shot is a straight-shootin', storefront preachin' son of a butch: namely butch/femme theater icons Peggy Shaw & Lois Weaver. He is the result of an immaculate ejaculate during the first W.O.W. festival in 1980 on St. Marks Place. Raised by lesbian sheepherders in Vermont, he ran away to Hollywood at 16 and had a religious vision while busking on the Venice Beach Boardwalk.
Their eyes met during a chorus of Diamonds in the Rough and they've been one in the eyes of The Lord ever since. Bebe Gunn is a young Christian singer from Evington, Virginia, with a voice like a sexy angel and a gleam in her blue-shadowed eye. When she met Bucky she was living in a storage unit with her crackhead boyfriend, Earl. One night of religious reverie with Bucky and her fate was sealed. From a long line of True Believers, Bebe's a pistol-packin', gospel-singin', harmonizin' honey who shares the vision of Peggy as ‘The Father' and believes in Bucky's homo-roller mission!
Bucky & Bebe's plans include recording an album of Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty duets updated for The Modern Metroseksual and appearing in the upcoming UK film The Higher the Hair. They are also looking for pickers n grinners for their new band: Doublewide. S/he first got noticed in 1981 as Annie Toone in the seminal no wave girlgroup The Bloods fronted by original Contortion, Adele Bertei.
In 2002 Toone gave the keynote address on the History of Drag Kinging at the idke conference in Columbus, Ohio. Transitioning in 2003, Anderson continues to write and perform his queeriginals as a trans-king. Before returning to New York in 2004 and teaming up with Shana, he fronted SF kingkore rockers Frankie Tenderloin & the Rent Boy$. Bebe Gunn aka Shana Scudder is a high femme hottie from the Blue Ridge Mountains. After releasing her self-titled debut LP in 2002, recorded by noted engineer Karen Kane, she's recently been signed to 307 Knox Records in Durham, North Carolina. A multi-instrumentalist and innovative songwriter with a distinct and captivating voice, Shana's been raising a ruckus as a solo artist up and down the eastern seaboard. In 04 she did shows in Atlanta, Chapel Hill, Durham, The Southern Women's Music Festival and at Freddy's in Brooklyn and cb's Gallery in New York. In 05 she has added to that list return engagements at Freddy's, The september 11th Concert, and The Southern Women's Music Festival and other appearances in Maryland, North Carolina, New York and New Jersey. meeting in Roanoke, Virginia while looking for his mother Lois aka
Tammy Whynot.
